Understanding the basic tenets of analytical chemistry, including precision, accuracy, and bias, will provide data users the tools to not only assess results but understand the reliability of results. This session will discuss basic analytical quality control sample types as well as typical quality control failures and their effect on data usability. Furthermore, this session will introduce USEPA regulatory guidance for evaluating data reliability (i.e. data validation). Finally, the session will end with real world case studies in which data validation radically altered project outcomes.
